Welcome to my new home page. I know I've been away for a long time, but now I'm back. I hope you find this site to be better than my old one. For those who don't know me, here are a few facts. I am a former homeless person who is now an activist on housing and food security issues. I am also an Honours graduate of George Brown College in Toronto, Ontario, Canada as well as a Registered Social Service Worker. I am a writer, an award-winning poet, a member of two samba bands, a disabled resident of South Parkdale in the west end of Toronto. I am a member of the NDP and a wife. I am the founder of the homeless memorial, now situated in front of the Church of the Holy Trinity, behind the Eaton's Centre. My latest venture is a project that I have founded called the Toronto Tiny Houses Project. My Committee and I are working to build tiny house for homeless and low income people. Tiny houses range from 200-600 sq feet, are self-contained with living area, bedroom, bathroom, and kitchen and may also have a sitting area outside. Many of them are on wheels and can be placed on small lots such as back yards, parking lots, laneways etc. They can be built inexpensively and do not cost a lot of money to maintain. We are presently in the process of trying to find land to build on. We've been out to Scarborough and will soon be going to Peterborough and Parry Sound. My committee meets once a month, just e-mail me and I'll let you know when the next meeting is. The meetings are open to everyone. I have many interests outside of my work. They include drumming, percussion, playing in my samba bands, dancing, cooking, baking, writing, travel, visiting friends, computers. creating websites, watching tv, making shakers, and old cars and trains. I don't smoke or do drugs, and I only drink occasionally. I am not the one your Mother warned you about. Thank you for visiting my site. I'm always making changes to this site, so I hope you will visit often.
